Wycliffe: Next Generation

involving students in Bible Translation, short term missions and internships

Hey, so I'm really interested in becoming an ethnomusicologist for wycliffe, but after some digging around I've found there aren't that many schools that offer ethnomusicology as a course study. Even after that there's the question whether or not a specific school's ethnomusicology program is good and whatnot. Basically I'm wondering if I can get in contact with somebody that knows how to get on the right track for this career. Help?

Moody Bible Institute has an Ethno program. It is quite new and small, but good as far as I know. I am leaving soon for my Discovery trip, but if you'd like I can try and connect you with a couple of grads from the program.

Grace! so there is a member on here who could answer your question really well. She is a member of Wycliffe Bible Translators also. I asked her your question and she said it was rather extensive. She thought maybe you and she and I could all do a conference call? I'd like to hear her answers too, so that I'll have a better answer to this the next time it comes up. If that doesn't work, then she said she be glad to email you!
her name is Karen Snyder. What do you think?
my email is dagney_stone@wycliffe.org
Emily, That's great! I know my parents are really concerned about me finding a good school that will have that program. I'll have to check Moody out!

Dagney, I would love to find a time to conference call or whatever, just let me know what I need to do!
Just to mention for those who read this post later... a couple of us met on a phone call to talk about the work of ethnomusicology and we'd be glad to talk to anyone else interested in how Wycliffe sends out those interested.
Wycliffe trains undergrads with the skills and interests in "ethnomusicology" and the arts (now called Arts Consultants) at a school called GIAL. Contact the person Chuck Micheals mentioned in previous post, Brian Schrag, or a NextGen staff such as Dagney Stone (dagney_stone@wycliffe.org) or Tracy Tooley (tracy_tooley@wycliffe.org) for further or more detailed information.

Thanks Grace for the question!!!! I'm excited to see what God has in store for you and for those you'll serve!
Hi Grace,
Sorry I just got back from my Discovery trip, so I havent really had the chance to get on here again. I'll get permission to share the contact info with you of my ethno friends. Have you had a chance to look at MBI? How do you like it?
I did check out MBI. Their program looked amazing! as of right now I'm looking at schools closer to home, and I'm probably not going to actually major in ethnomusicology. But thanks for the offer! I'll let you know if I start to look at Moody again :)
