Ethnomusicology focus!
After orientation this team will split up to visit translation efforts around East Africa in partnership with local Bible translation efforts. You will partner with Wycliffe missionaries, and African colleagues in support of Bible translation and Scripture use.
Come on this African trip expecting to be stretched, learn more about SIL and experience what the lives of workers are actually like in linguistics, literacy and support. You'll have the opportunity to grow in your faith, develop relationships with nationals and learn about Scripture use in East Africa.
Those who meet the ethnomusicology (EM) requirments will go to Nairobi, Kenya after orientation. Participants will train in how to conduct a song writing workshop before departing for a week in a rural setting to run a song writing workshop. These participants will then return and edit the collections.
Other assignments may include:
• Basic computer training
• Administrative support in the area of tools and materials development for the Human Resources Department
• Web design - help build or modify web and intranet sites, and a Google-type add-on with Scripture awareness/culture focus
Schedule:
• Week 1: Orientation to organization, culture & language
• Weeks 2-5: Team Scripture use survey training and deployment
• Week 6: Debrief, critical inquiry, feedback and assessment
Prerequisites:
• Previous cross-cultural experience
• Comfort with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher
