“Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding” (Proverbs 2:2, NLT).
For the Tugbiri people of Nigeria, the Bible is available in both Hausa and English, languages in which they have varying degrees of competence—but, as they said, “A message in one’s own language goes further into the ears.” The Tugbiri have decided that they want to translate the Bible into their own language for the first time. A Tugbiri translation project is already forming, and local speakers are now seeking input on the development of a writing system.
